Abstract:

The functional groups of graphene oxide play important role in the nucleation and growth of the nanoparticles on the graphene oxide layers. In this paper, Ni nanoparticles were deposited onto graphene oxide layers by in-situdeposition method. Ni nanoparticles were synthesized by modified polyol method. Sizes of Ni nanoparticles synthesized by modified polyol method and in the presence of graphene oxide were investigated and compared. It is observed that Ni nanoparticles size reduced from 133.8 nm to 3.53 nm if synthesized by in-situ deposition method. Functional groups of graphene oxide act like nucleation sites for Ni nanoparticles growth limiting their sizes which results in good particles dispersion and ultra-small sizes.
